THE USAGE OF THE PORTABLE ABL-77 ANALYZER BY A MOBILE RESUSCITATION TEAM

In this retrospective study, the usefulness of portable ABL-77 analyzer (Radiometer, Denmark) for mobile resuscitation teams has been evaluated. The analyzer measures parameters of acid-base balance as well as blood gases concentrations. The point-of-care measurements obtained by a mobile resuscitation team for 34 critically ill obstetric patients enabled to make immediate decisions on the parameters of mechanical ventilation and/or blood transfusion. High accuracy of the results was confirmed later by clinical laboratory with the help of ABL-500 analyzer (Radiometer, Denmark). We concluded that ABL-77 analyzer is the effective diagnostic instrument for a mobile resuscitation team.
Although the necessity of laboratory monitoring for critically ill patients is obvious, the point-of-care-testing has not been fully realized so far due to absence of portable instruments for instant analysis.
